How To Dissable Write Protection of USB Drive

Some times your USB Flash Drive might have been enabled to avoid virus or other malware program attacks. But to copy or delete data you have to provide write access.

To enable write access to pendrive just follow the below told steps:

1. Open the Windows Registery Editor. For this open 'Run' dialog box and
typein 'regedit' without quotes.

2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Currentcontrolset\control\storatedevicepolicies

3. Double click the 'WriteProtect' option and set the Value data to 0. Now
write access is granted.

There is another way for the same purpose but you will lose your data as it requires formatting the pendrive. Anyhow, I've given the steps to do it below:

1. Shutdown your PC or laptop and insert your USB memory stick.
2. Now turn it on in Safe mode
3. Goto command prompt and typein the name of the drive. For example if it's G:
then typein G: and hit enter
4. Then type format G: and press enter
5. If asked (Y/N) choose (Y) and press enter.
6. Now format starts by which write protection will be removed.

Apart from the above told tricks, the USB manufacturers may have special software tools to enable or disable write protection. For Transcend pendrives there's a tool called JetFlash Online Recovery
is available. Download it and run by specifing the memory capacity of your drive. Choose
"repair and erase all data" or " repair and keep existing data". After gettin notification like
'Format Complete' unplug your drive.

There you go... Now your device is free from write protection!
